Brittany and Josh are one of those couples that just exude love. They are so happy together and so in love, and it made them a joy to work with. They got married on March 15th, at a private home just outside of Orlando in Longwood, FL. and what a home it was!
The house was gorgeous and sat right on the water, with a sprawling back yard. We set up the gift table inside on a sun porch, the guest book and favor table outside in the courtyard where cocktail hour also took place, and the ceremony down by the water. The reception was tucked nicely in between the water and the courtyard, and the weather could not have been
The main color of the day was tiffany blue, and Brittany tied it in wherever she could, with fantastic results. There were wine jugs, antique vases and candles everywhere, with bunches of baby’s breath and hydrangeas gracing every table.
With the dance floor the focal point of the lawn, and cafe lights strung over the tables, once the sun set the reception became even prettier than it was during the day!
Brittany and Josh were wed with some heartfelt vows and a wine ceremony, before sealing it with a passionate kiss!
Their cake was provided by a friend who works with Publix, and was absolutely delicious!! Cocktails Catering did a fantastic job keeping the drinks, and the food flowing, until all the guests were stuffed and happy.
The night ended with the happy couple settling into the home for the night, and guests eating favors and raving about the party. Pretty much the perfect ending to a perfect wedding day!

March 1st was another beautiful day in the Tampa Bay area. The St. Petersburg Museum of History sits in downtown St. Pete, right near the Bay and offers a picture perfect waterside ceremony space. Bryce and Steven had recently moved back from being stationed in Japan, and deserved a gorgeous wedding day, which is exactly what they got.
Bryce loves octopi, and got custom clay cake toppers on Etsy for their cake, which was a delicious creation by Publix. Everyone thought the little toppers were adorable, because they were!
There were personalized touches everywhere, including custom made soap and shaving soap bars for favors! They smelled amazing, and it was so different and creative!
The Museum of History is a great choice for a slightly different wedding venue. They have tons of open space for cocktail hour and the reception, but each room offers an interesting and different back drop, as well as lots of stuff for your guests to look at and enjoy during the event.
The DJ had the party going all night, and we wish we’d gotten more pictures of the packed dance floor. I’ve never seen so many family members boogy down right there with the bridal party!!
Bryce and Steven were some of the sweetest and most deserving couple’s we’ve ever met, and we loved being able to help them get everything together during a hectic time of moving!! Congrats Bryce & Steve!

Fall was a gorgeous season for Florida weddings, and Melissa and Tom’s beachside wedding in November was no exception! They got married at the fantastic Isla Del Sol Yacht & Country Club in St. Petersburg, FL and couldn’t have asked for nicer weather as the backdrop!
Melissa LOVES anchors (from her sorority days) and the coral and navy color scheme they selected worked perfectly with the venue and the season. Little details graced every table, and an amazing photography book of sea photos served as a cute and different alternative to the regular guest book.
They also had guests leave them messages in a bottle, to offer advice on how to navigate their marriage!
The ceremony took place down by the gazebo next to the ocean, with cocktail hour on the pool deck and the reception in the Grille Room. All 3 locations were breathtaking, and everything you dream about for a Florida beach style wedding.
The cake from Sweet Tweets went above and beyond (as they always do!) and Grant Hemond and Associates kept the dancefloor packed all night long!

Back in October, a good friend of ours Katie, married her sweetheart Jason. They’d selected a rustic horse farm in Dade City as the venue, and the day was bright and perfect. Barrington Hill does a great job with weddings (as I’m sure they do with horses) and the backdrop they provide can’t be beat!
Katie loves purple and green, with touches of black for dramatic effect, and found ways to tie all of that in with her venue. From the custom wine bottles on the tables, to the fisherman’s groom’s cake, every detail screamed Jason and Katie.
After a gorgeous ceremony under the oak tree, guests enjoyed cocktails in front of the large house on the land, along with some delicious appetizers from Puff n Stuff. Once Katie and Jason were done taking pictures, they entered for a tear jerking first dance, before everyone moved inside for dinner.
Puff n Stuff kept everyone full and happy and the party went on into the night. There were adorable coozie favors, 2 delicious cakes from Sweet Tweets Cakery and plenty of booze to go around!
Capped off by fireworks over the farm, the night ended on a high note and Katie and Jason went off happy to a honeymoon in the tropics!

Whew has it been a long time since we’ve posted! The fall was packed busy with marketing and networking events, some big family news, the holidays and of course, weddings! While we wait for the photos to come back so we can share our fall weddings with you, we thought we’d take a minute to update you on some happenings with the company.
We decided back in October that business was expanding enough to justify bringing a third person in to join our husband and wife team. After looking through quite a few resumes and conducting a few interviews, we decided to keep it close to home and hired Alicia. Alicia and Nikki have been friends since high school, and Alicia has always had a passion for events.
She went to West Virginia University to study interior design, and while there also worked for the University’s catering company working large events. After college, she moved back to Florida and took up ballroom dancing as a hobby, and even went to far as to become a ballroom dance instructor!
Alicia has a talent for design and a creative mind, not to mention some killer dance skills, and we thought those attributes combined with her catering background made her the perfect fit for the team!
She’s working as an assistant event coordinator with us currently, but will be taking on her own events starting in late Spring. She’s also given us the ability to add ballroom dance lessons to the services we can offer our clients, which we are very excited about!
Alicia is smart, bubbly and fun, and can make any couple feel at ease while she gets the job done to make their day spectacular. We are thrilled to have her as part of the Southern Elegance Events family, and can’t wait for you all to meet her!
June 17, 2013 was a gorgeous, sunny day and the perfect day for a wedding!! Shari and Jonah contacted us 8 weeks from their wedding date for a full wedding planning package. We worked hard and planned the entire thing long distance to get them exactly what they wanted, so they could relax when they flew in from Baltimore a few days before the wedding. Shari and Jonah are Orthodox Jews, and we had such a great time learning about more customs and traditions to help make their day perfect. They brought in 3 rabbis to help with the ceremony, which, along with the reception was held at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay. We used the top floor, Armani’s for the ceremony, with the second floor for the bedeken and ketubah signing and the ballroom for the reception.
Michele Rene Hair & Make Up was on hand to make our bride even more gorgeous!
We found a band in Miami specializing in Jewish music, who drove all the way up to make the reception the party it deserved to be! Shari’s dog Spunky walked down the aisle before her in an adorable outfit, paving the way for our gorgeous bride and her parents to walk down the aisle to her waiting groom.
The chuppah was beautifully decorated by 2BirdsEvents, who also did the wedding party flowers and breathtaking centerpieces.
Your Story, By Us Photography and Trinity Wedding Cinema were both on hand the entire day to capture every moment of this momentous occasion, and provided us with all the photos in this blog post.
It was a gorgeous day, filled with religion and significance. It was touching to watch the way Jonah & Shari embraced their day, and how overjoyed their families were to be there with them. The most breathtaking photo of the day came after the wedding itself was over. Shari and Jonah went to a private local beach to spend time together and take some couple’s photos and this is what came from that:
Gorgeous right? We were beyond happy to be there for Shari & Jonah’s big day, and so grateful to all the vendors who made the day perfect! Back in May, Memorial Day weekend to be exact, we had 2 weddings. Sunday May 25th was Tyler & Diana’s wedding day. This gorgeous couple planned every detail themselves, and Diana made gorgeous accents and centerpieces with help from her family. Alisa Sue Photography captured the day, from the ceremony at the Van Wezel Sarasota to the reception at Michael’s on East and every moment in between.
Diana’s theme of shabby chic fit perfectly in with the gorgeous venues, and each table’s custom centerpiece stood out with the guests.
We were so thrilled to be able to work with this couple. Every wedding is special, and fun but when you get a group like this, it’s hard not to smile the entire day!

Memorial Day weekend was a busy one for Southern Elegance Events! We had back to back weddings in Ft. Myers and in Sarasota. The first of these was located on Ft. Myer’s Beach on May 25, 2013. Jessica and BJ were planning their wedding all the way from St. Louis, and while Jessica had everything under control leading up to the wedding, she really needed someone day of to decorate the room and make sure she enjoyed her day. That’s where we came in!
Jessica and BJ got married on Lover’s Key Beach, then had a reception at Junkanoo’s on the Beach. Junkanoo is a beach bar with an upstairs room, but it’s not your typical wedding venue. It does have a great view though, and with a little decorating, it was the perfect setting for their purple and green party! Jessica had brought all her decorations down and dropped them off, so all we had to do was show up and set everything up!
She had beautiful tulle draping with icicle lights for the dance floor, succulents, sand and candles for the centerpieces and adorable bottles for advice from their guests.
She also had a candy bar of all she and BJ’s favorite candies, in their color scheme with the cutest little bags to take candy home in.
Jessica had ordered custom photo books with covers in their color scheme to grace the tables, and had photos of both their parents for the entrance.
The custom coozies were a hit with the guests, and Jessica even gave us 2 to take home! Every time we use them we remember this gorgeous day, and what a happy and fun loving couple Jessica and BJ are. They were all smiles, all day, and their guests seemed right at home overlooking Ft. Myer’s Beach.

Around the country, and around the world, people love to get married in the Summer. Here in Florida, we have more weddings year-round, but summer is still a big hit for weddings. Vacation time, sunshine..what’s not to love?? Well, for some, the heat can be a little much, especially coupled with the summer showers Florida is known for.
We’ve come up with a few tips to help you beat the heat (and the rain) for your summer wedding and enjoy every minute to the fullest!
1- If you’re having an outside wedding, be sure to have a back up plan! Whether it be an indoor room, a tent or another venue; if the rain starts pouring down, or the temperature is just too high, have somewhere you can use instead so you and your guests can still party the night away no matter what the weather does!
2- Try to schedule summer weddings towards the evening hours, closer to sunset. While afternoon weddings are a must for some cultures, and that’s completely okay, if you have an option, choose later in the afternoon. You can get married a little before sunset, take some gorgeous sunset photos and enjoy the rest of the evening as darkness falls and the temperature drops (at least a little)!
3- Make sure to provide plenty of non- alcoholic beverages for guests, ideally before the ceremony even starts til the very end of the reception. Alcohol is great, but with the heat in the summer, people also need to stay cool and hydrated. Providing them with waters, juices, teas and lemonades will help them keep their energy up and enjoy your party longer, as well as helping to ensure that no one ends up with dehydration or heat stroke! You can find cute ways to do this, whether you have a bartender or not.
4- You should also opt for lighter foods. An outdoor or midday summer wedding is not necessarily conducive to foods like soups. Stick to fun summer foods like grilled meats or vegetables, kababs and salads. Guests will love a dessert table with sorbet, ice cream, popsicles etc, as long as you provide enough napkins to keep their clothes clean. Wonton tacos and ceviche make great passed appetizers too!
5- We always carry extra umbrellas in our cars for weddings we work. If you think there’s a chance of rain during your event, look into getting some cheap umbrellas or ponchos from the dollar store, and providing them in cute baskets for your guests. You can offer these at the doors of the ceremony if the guests need to move from ceremony to reception, or just at the reception for guests who need to go to their cars or step outside for a moment. You can also do the same with cheap sunglasses or handheld fans for the midday heat.
It’s also a great idea for couples to invest in a big, pretty golf umbrella. That way, if it rains, you can take couple’s portraits snuggled under your umbrella and stay dry. The pictures always look amazing!
6- Finally, consider the time of day and weather when you set the attire for your wedding. Think in terms of what the bridal party wears, as well as what you ask guests to wear. Formal is fine if your wedding is indoors and air-conditioned, but asking for black tie or formal wear for a mid afternoon outdoor wedding will end up with unhappy guests and a sweaty wedding party. Some suggestions are light sheath dresses, linen suits and cotton to keep everyone cool and dry on the wedding day.
If you’re planning a summer wedding, we hope our above suggestions can be of help! Any of them can help you, and your guests enjoy your event even more.Oh, and brides- airbrush make up is a good way to go if you’ll be outside in the heat! It tends to stay on better, even though sweat so you’ll be flawless all night!
We hope you’ve enjoyed our little glance into summer weddings, especially here in Florida!
